Holiday Weekend Events to Close Several Streets, Henley Bridge

This weekend, anticipate street closures to accommodate a downtown farmers’ market, a night-time 5K race on Neyland Drive and, of course, the launching of fireworks for the Festival on the Fourth finale.

Market Square Farmers’ Market – Saturday, July 2

The 13th season of the downtown farmers’ market offers locally grown produce, meat, eggs and plants, as well as locally-made artisan foods and crafts. For details, visit www.marketsquarefarmersmarket.org.

The Market Square Farmers’ Market will connect local growers and buyers from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Market Square and along Union Avenue and Market Street.

The following streets will be closed:
• Market Street, between Clinch and Union avenues – closed from 6:45 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Saturday; 
• Union Avenue, between Walnut and Gay streets – closed from 6:45 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Saturday; 
• Temporary no-parking zones on Market Street and Union Avenue will be in effect starting at 5 a.m. Saturday.

Pilot Fireball Moonlit Classic 5K / Little Firecracker run – Sunday, July 3

Celebrate the eve of Independence Day with a premier road race, part of the Knoxville Track Club’s Summer Series. The 9 p.m. race on Neyland Drive is preceded with a one-mile kids’ run at 8 p.m.

The following streets will be closed:
• The westbound lanes of Neyland Drive, between Joe Johnson Drive and Walnut Street, will be closed for the kids run, 8-8:30 p.m.
• All lanes of Neyland Drive, between Joe Johnson Drive and Walnut Street, will be closed from 8:45-10:30 p.m.
 
Festival on the Fourth – Monday, July 4

The City’s Festival on the Fourth celebration in World’s Fair Park will feature Knoxville’s largest fireworks celebration, and in honor of the City’s 225th anniversary, the base of the Sunsphere will be illuminated with red, white and blue lights. Fourth of July festivities begin at 4 p.m., rain or shine, with food, music, games and a 15-minute fireworks extravaganza that will begin at 9:35 p.m. The fireworks will be launched from the Henley Bridge. The following streets will be closed:
• The Henley Bridge between Hill Avenue north of the Tennessee River and Blount Avenue south of the river will be closed from 3 p.m. Monday to midnight.
• Clinch Avenue between Henley Street and World’s Fair Park Drive will be closed from 2-11:30 p.m. Monday.
• World’s Fair Park Drive between Clinch and Grand avenues will be closed from 3-11:30 p.m. Monday.
• In addition, the observation deck of the Sunsphere will be closed at 2 p.m. on Monday, July 4.
