The Knoxville Stomp is a four-day festival, May 5-8, celebrating the resurfacing of the 1929-1930 lost recordings known as the "Knoxville Sessions."
This collection of recordings was made in a temporary studio at the St. James Hotel in downtown Knoxville. Dozens of musicians came from miles around to take a turn behind the microphone. And now Bear Family Records is bringing those sounds back to life as an exclusive CD boxed set more than 80 years later.
The Knoxville Stomp will highlight Knoxville's varied musical heritage and the diverse voices that contributed to the City's musical history. This festival will feature a museum exhibition, record show, panel discussions and lots and lots of live music from dozens of musicians.
Don Flemons will headline this event along with a slew of musical acts performing their own versions of songs from the Knoxville Sessions.
Joe Bussard will lead off the Knoxville Stomp Film and Speakers series. Mr. Bussard, an expert in music from the 1920s and 1930s, was instrumental in the recovery of many Knoxville Sessions recordings. Over the four-day festival various films and speakers will bring to life the music an cultural history of Knoxville and East Tennessee.
