Knoxville Mayor Madeline Rogero and Police Chief David Rausch today announced Kenny Miller as the department’s newest Deputy Chief. Deputy Chief Miller assumes command of the department’s Criminal Investigation Division.
Miller has served the Knoxville Police Department since 1992 when he began as a Police Cadet. He attended the Basic Police Academy in January 1993. He served on the Special Operations Squad (SWAT) from 1997 to 2010. Miller received an Associate of Science Degree from Pellissippi State Community College in 1997, a Bachelor of Science Degree in Human Ecology from the University of Tennessee in 2002, and a Master of Business Administration from Lincoln Memorial University in 2013. He is a graduate of the Southeastern Command and Leadership Academy (SECLA) in 2003, the 229th Session of the FBI National Academy in 2006, and the PERF Senior Management Institute for Police in 2013.
Miller was promoted to Sergeant in November 1998, Lieutenant in November 2005, and Captain in November 2011. He served as an Officer in the East District Patrol Division from 1993 to 1998, Sergeant in the Central District Patrol Division from 1998 to 2003, School Resource Officer Supervisor in the Support Services Division from 2003 to 2005, Lieutenant in the West District Patrol Division 2005 to 2010, Commander of the Internal Affairs Unit 2010 to 2015, and District Commander of the East District Patrol Division from 2015 to 2016.
Chief Rausch said, “Kenny brings a wealth of knowledge to his new role as Commander of the Criminal Investigation Division. It is a position that I know he will move forward to a whole new level.”
