Streets Closed for Dogwood Arts Finale, Volapalooza, Other Festivities

Anticipate a lot of people – and some temporarily closed streets – to accommodate this weekend’s downtown Dogwood Arts street fair and the Volapalooza music festival on World’s Fair Park.
Plus, there will be rolling street closures in Sequoyah Hills on Saturday morning, April 30, to accommodate the Dogwood Classic 5K race and the Walk MS event.

Here are additional details:

Dogwood Arts on Market Square

The three-day finale of the month-long Dogwood Arts celebration features more than 60 local and regional juried artists on Market Square and the surrounding streets – plus performing artists, culinary arts demonstrations and tastings, a flower market and children’s activities. Hours are 11 a.m.-9 p.m. Friday, April 29; 10 a.m.-9 p.m. Saturday, April 30; and 11 a.m.-5 p.m. Sunday, May 1. Visit www.dogwoodarts.com for more information.

Street closures (in effect now through 10 p.m. Sunday):


• Market Street, between Clinch and Union avenues;
• Union Avenue, between Walnut and Gay streets; and
• Clinch Avenue, between Market and Gay streets

Volapalooza

Gates open at 4:30 p.m. Friday, April 29, at World’s Fair Park; food trucks will begin offering meals then. Eight bands will be performing from 5-11 p.m. Visit http://volapalooza.utk.edu.

Street closures (2:30-11:30 p.m. Saturday):

• World’s Fair Park Drive, between Clinch Avenue and the turnaround at the former Knoxville Convention Center

Dogwood Classic 5K

The Knoxville Track Club race starts at 8 a.m. Saturday, April 30, and offers a new route that presents different vistas from past runs. Visit http://www.ktc.org/RaceDogwood.html.

Street closures (rolling closures, 8-9 a.m.):

• The loop-course route starts (and finishes) on Cherokee Boulevard in the middle parking lot. Runners head east in the eastbound lanes and turn around in the crossover just past Iskagna Drive. Runners then will move to the westbound lanes, turning right onto Talahi Drive around a small park and fountain. From there, runners continue on Cherokee in the westbound lanes to a crossover just past Lakeland Drive. Runners head back to the finish line in the eastbound lanes.

Walk MS

Walk MS raises awareness of multiple sclerosis and funds for research and advocacy. The Knoxville walk begins with registration at 9 a.m. on Saturday, April 30, on Cherokee Boulevard / Sequoyah Hills Park.

• Cherokee Boulevard, between South Garden Road and Agawela Avenue.
