The 4th annual 9-11 Memorial Stair Climb will take place at the Sunsphere, located on World’s Fair Park. Opening ceremonies will start at 8:30 am with a tolling of the bell and a moment of silence at 8:46 am to recognize the time the first plane made impact with the World Trade Center. Climbing will begin immediately following the moment of silence.
Families of local East Tennessee victims that perished on September 11, 2001 have been invited to participate in this solemn memorial event. Two wreaths will be in place; One to represent and honor fallen firefighters, the other one to represent the lives of the East Tennessee victims lost on this day.
Kristina Greenway, founder of the Knoxville Memorial Stair Climb says, “Last year’s event was profound, incredibly moving and meaningful. First Responders come from all over the country to participate in the Knoxville event.”
This memorial event is free to the public to view. Registration for participants is exclusive to first responders and military 18 years of age and up.
