Section of West Jackson Ave. to Close Next Week

Posted: 11/10/2017
A short section of West Jackson Avenue in the Old City will be closed next week as a crew installs a telecommunications junction box and conduits, part of the City’s streetscapes upgrade along Jackson.

A contractor, Design and Construction Services Inc., has requested a closure on Jackson Avenue between Broadway and the Jackson entrance to Balter Beer Works, starting at 8 a.m. Monday, Nov. 13. The closure will remain in effect through 5:30 p.m. Friday, Nov. 17.

Customers will be able to access the brewery from Broadway. Also, motorists will be able to access the City-owned parking lot on West Jackson Avenue by driving west on West Jackson from Gay Street.

Two streetscape projects totaling about $2 million – one managed by DCSI, the other by Southern Constructors Inc. – are giving West Jackson Avenue between South Central Street and Broadway a fresh new look, with rebuilt sidewalks and infrastructure upgrades. In coming months, street trees will be planted.

Coming next year: The antiquated ramps connecting Jackson Avenue and Gay Street will be rebuilt, bringing total City investment to modernize and upgrade Old City public infrastructure to about $11.5 million.
