On Thursday morning, May 24, 2018 Mayor Rogero will cut a ribbon to celebrate the more than $2 million in streetscape upgrades along West Jackson Avenue in the Old City, between North Broadway and North Central Street.
The event will take place at 118 W. Jackson Ave.
The work – done by two design and construction teams – included KUB gas and electrical relocations, telecommunication improvements, sidewalk improvements, new street lighting and landscaping.
Some details of the project were tailored to the aesthetics of the Old City. Near the intersection with Central, for example, the concrete curb was installed with exposed aggregate, to match the older, broken stone pieces that were replaced.
Throughout the length of West Jackson, ugly snarls of overhead utility lines were buried.
Robin Easter, president of the Old City Association, will be available to talk about new businesses and residences that are opening in the neighborhood.
Anyone needing a disability accommodation to attend the ribbon-cutting should contact the City’s ADA Coordinator, Stephanie Cook, at
