The City Tree Board is sponsoring a talk by UT Associate Professor of Urban Forestry Sharon Jean-Philippe on October 15, 2019 from 6:30-7:30 pm in the Hollingsworth Auditorium of the Ellington Plant Sciences Building on UT's Ag Campus.
The title of the talk is Picking the Right Spot to Plant Your Urban Tree. Trees in urban environments are planted to enhance and beautify landscapes but must deal with: poor soils that have often been polluted; competition with grass
for nutrients and water; impervious surfaces that inhibit root growth; disease and insect pressures; and abuse from automobiles, lawnmowers, pests and people.
Dr. Jean-Philippe will review proper site assessment prior to planting trees in
urban environments. She is associate professor of urban forestry in the Forestry,
Wildlife, and Fisheries Dept. at UTK.
