On Friday January 4, 2019, leaders from Knoxville Police Department, Knox County Schools, Knox County Schools Security Division, Knox County Sheriff’s Office, Tennessee Highway Safety Office and the Knox County District Attorney General's Office held a joint press conference to remind drivers of their duties as it pertains to safely operating their vehicle around a stopped school bus that is loading or unloading a child.
This afternoon, Tuesday, January 8, 2019, we will have officers monitoring area school zones and paying particular attention to drivers who fail to stop for school buses.
Below is a picture that explains in detail when a driver must stop for a school bus.
According to Knox County District Attorney General, Charme Allen, the fine can range from $250 to $1,000.
Please, do the right thing and STOP when buses are loading or unloading children. No meeting, text, phone call, Snapchat, Tweet, Selfie, or post is worth the loss of a child’s life.
