This evening and Wednesday morning, Knoxville Mayor Indya Kincannon will be speaking at two meetings with different stakeholders – both aimed at assuring a complete and accurate 2020 Census count.

Meeting with community leaders on multicultural outreach

When: 5 p.m. today (Tuesday, Feb. 4, 2020)

Where: City of Knoxville’s Public Works Service Center, 3131 Morris Ave.

Who: Mayor Kincannon; Tim Kuhn, Director of the Tennessee State Data Center; Cesar Bautista, Youth Organizer, Tennessee Immigrant Refugee Rights Coalition (TIRRC); John Anderson,  Partnership Specialist, Census 2020; community representatives

Today’s meeting will focus on multicultural outreach and the importance of counting everyone – and that everyone counts in a welcoming community. The discussion of strategies to encourage robust Census participation will include a question-and-answer session.


2020 Census Complete Count Committee meeting

When: 10 a.m. Wednesday, Feb. 5, 2020

Where: Small Assembly Room, City County Building, 400 Main St.

Who: Mayor Kincannon, Knox County Mayor Glenn Jacobs and Farragut Mayor Ron Williams; representatives of City Council and County Commission; education, health, business and literacy advocates; additional community and faith leaders

The Complete Count Committee is tasked with coordinating Census awareness and outreach efforts by its member organizations and additional community partners. 

An inaccurate count can cost Knox County tens of millions of dollars in federal funding for schools, roads, public transportation, health care and more. An undercount also would shortchange residents in terms of their political representation.
