Knoxville’s two outdoor pools – Ed Cothren Pool, 1737 Reynolds St., and Inskip Pool, 4204 Bruhin Road – will open for the summer this Saturday, June 6, 2020.
Usually, the City’s pools open over Memorial Day weekend. But the opening this year was delayed as Knoxville and Knox County moved to a graduated second phase of COVID-19 public safety protocols.
Physical-distancing protocols will be in place at pools and will be enforced by City staff. Arrangement of tables and operation of concessions also will encourage physical distancing. Visitors while outside the pools must remain 6 feet apart from one another.
Admission to Inskip Pool – with its 285,000 gallons of water, two low dives, a high dive and a nearby greenway walking loop – is $4 per person. Admission to Ed Cothren – 275,000 gallons, a diving board and accessible ramp – is $3 person.
Discounted pricing is available for groups and frequent visitors; inquire about the Splash Pass deal. Groups of 10 or more must call in advance to ensure they can be safely accommodated.
The playgrounds near the pools, due to COVID-19 protocols, remain closed. The restrooms at both pools will be open.
Ed Cothren and Inskip pools are open 11 a.m.-5 p.m. Mondays through Saturdays and 1-6 Sundays. (Note: Ed Cothren will be closed Monday and Tuesday, June 8-9, for previously scheduled maintenance being performed by a private contractor.)

Summer camps, meanwhile, will start on June 15. Parents are invited to call their preferred camp site after 10 a.m. Friday, June 5. Space will be limited due to COVID-19 safety precautions.

Other City Parks and Recreation facilities are open. For example, Augusta Quarry is open to swimmers, with the same physical-distancing rules that are in place at pools. City staff will be at the park each day, reminding visitors of the park’s rules, including that jumping off the rock walls is dangerous and prohibited. Parking is not allowed along the entry drive to allow access for garbage trucks and emergency vehicles.
Tennis and pickleball courts are open, and basketball courts and athletic fields are available for practices and training only. Recreation centers and the Knoxville Arts and Fine Crafts Center are open, but only for scheduled programs. Park restrooms will open later during Phase 2.
Playgrounds, indoor pools, senior centers and splash pads remain closed during Phase 2. No rentals of shelters, recreation centers and pools are being taken during Phase 2.
