Public Service Central consists of 35 employees and covers an area mainly from
Neyland Drive on the South to Fifth Avenue on the North; and from
Concord Street on the West to Hall of Fame on the east. This area also includes all of downtown and the Central Business District (CBD).
They deliver all citizen public services (brush & leaf removal,
street sweeping, right-of way mowing, snow removal,
etc.) on pre-determined scheduled routes. In addition to the routine services provided, their responsibilities include special events, trash pickup for downtown, inside curb sweeping and mow/trim work for all of the City of Knoxville.
This area also consists of a night shift responsible for
all downtown maintenance. This provides the citizens quality services
with minimal inconvenience to the downtown during prime business hours.
In addition to routine maintenance activities, they also perform all
garbage collection on a nightly basis.
Due to the pedestrian level in downtown Market Square
there is also a specialized crew responsible for downtown and Market
Square during daytime hours. Some of the maintenance includes garbage
collection, litter control, and fountain maintenance.
Lastly, Public Service Central also assists Special Events with
all set-up activities. From the Dogwood Arts Festival to Rossini
Festival to Christmas lights, these are the people behind the
scenes that help make all events a success.
