For the first time ever, the iconic Sunsphere took center stage on New Year’s Eve, as the Special Events team incorporated some big changes to the City’s New Year’s Eve celebration.
In the end, the new location, the new sponsor, and the re-imagined ball drop created quite a memorable evening that will now lead to some permanent changes!

City Staff Join Commemoration of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.
Mayor Indya Kincannon congratulated Knoxville's Martin Luther King Jr. Commemorative Commission on their 40th anniversary last week when she spoke at their annual MLK Leadership Awards Luncheon. Several City staff members attended, as well as local community and business leaders.
The event was thought-provoking, hopeful and celebratory -- especially when our very own Director of Community Empowerment Charles Lomax Jr. received the Award for Diversity Champion. Our videographer Shawn Davis captured some highlights of the luncheon and its inspiring keynote speaker Nona Jones.

This month’s mystery employee originally hails from America’s Dairyland, although she’s lived in East Tennessee for 19 years.
