Are You Maximizing Your City Benefits?

Months of work came together, under seemingly perfect sunny skies at this year’s Mayor’s Appreciation Luncheon and Benefits Fair.

Nearly 500 employees spent their November 3rd afternoon at Mary Costa Plaza where they could get questions answered by the 16 health vendors on site, enjoy a free lunch, and play some games.

Mayor Kincannon greeted those in attendance, thanking all employees for their hard work and dedication. She also encouraged people to take the time to learn about our extensive benefits package, and to sign up to donate to local charities through the City’s Consolidated Charities campaign.

Public Works Hosts, Dominates Annual Conference

Rodeo WinnersOn Nov. 9 & 10, 2022, Knoxville hosted the Tennessee Chapter of the American Public Works Association (TCAPWA) annual conference. And it was our Public Works team’s time to shine!

During the conference, Fleet Services Manager Nick Bradshaw was elected State Chapter President. Public Service Director Chad Weth received the Roger Clark Award for dedication and service to TCAPWA, and Scott Jenkins received the Edward C. Archer Young Public Works Leader of the Year Award. Congrats to all!

Also during the conference, several Public Service crew members gave skilled demonstrations during the Equipment Rodeo state final. Check out this article to see who took first and second places and who’s going on to the nationals!

Veterans Day Parade
A little wet weather couldn’t dampen a tradition as long and revered as the Veterans Day Parade. Smiles from participants and observers were bright on the late morning of Nov. 11, 2022, as the 97th Veterans Day Parade took place. Families waved small American flags from the sidewalks while numerous parade participants strolled and stepped down Gay Street.

The annual parade is a collaboration between the American Legion Post 2 and the City’s Office of Special Events, which coordinates road closures with the Knoxville Police Department, City Engineering and Public Service. Thanks to all these departments who balance the role of keeping our roads and people safe with the occasion to honor our military veterans.

Enjoy these parade highlights captured by our videographer Shawn Davis in the video below.

Who Can It Be Now
Who Can It Be NowThis time of year, our mystery employee can be found outside among the leaf piles of Knoxville’s neighborhoods.

Except for driving through piles of snow, it’s his favorite place to be.

He’s worked for the City of Knoxville for 16 years. And he’s called Knoxville home his entire life – growing up in Bearden and going to school at Pond Gap and West High.

His favorite food is shrimp or “anything that swims in the sea.”

Can you guess the name of this month’s mystery employee?
