Leaf Season is Here!
The chill in the air and the swirling of leaves is a good reminder that leaf season is officially here! Public Service Department crews will soon be visiting neighborhoods to vacuum residents' leaf piles.
You are asked to rake leaves into rows parallel to the street, away from vehicles, power poles and mailboxes to facilitate swift removal. Be sure not to block access to sidewalks and other public infrastructure.
Leaf pickup will last through February.
City Videographer Shawn Davis teamed up with Public Service to bring us the "do’s and don’ts" of leaf pickup. Click the button below to watch the video and learn more.

City Employees Devote Time, Money to Giving Back
We were delighted to hear from so many City colleagues about how you volunteer your time.
One specific organization has captured several City employees’ dog-loving hearts and volunteer time is ChainFree Knoxville.
This nonprofit organization serves residents with dogs who on chains or leads by providing them with free fences and installation and additional resource.
CFK was founded by former City employee Janna Cecil, who retired from the Housing and Neighborhood Development Department a few years ago.
In 2021, she and like-minded residents concerned about dogs in our community started the organization. They have raised funds and volunteers to build 91 fences, free 107 dogs from chains and spay/neuter 54 dogs.
As open enrollment for Benefits begins this month, so does our Consolidated Charities campaign. If you are interested in donating to a local or national nonprofit whose mission resonates with you, we hope you’ll consider giving. The deadline for Consolidated Charities Campaign pledge forms is Thursday, November 30, 2023.

Parks & Recreation Treats Afterschool Kids
Costumes, candy and lots of laughter and fun. That was the scene at Caswell Park on Oct. 26, 2023, as the Parks and Recreation team treated about 500 young people in its afterschool programs to a fun, Halloween-themed party.
It was a perfect way to celebrate Lights On Afterschool Day, a national recognition of afterschool programs and the many ways they benefit kids, families and our entire community.
Thanks to the Parks and Rec team, Public Service and all the departments and community groups who brought candy, activities and energy to match the youngsters’ high spirits.

This month’s Mystery Employee is an award-winning alumnus of his university, a proud dad and dedicated volunteer.
He uses his expertise to teach basic self-defense classes for women, as well as fitness and character training for teens. And recently he helped with a community baby shower supply drive that served more than 70 new and expectant mothers.
Which of your colleagues is this involved in his community? Find out!

Happy anniversary to employees hired in the months of November!
