HOLIDAY & WEATHER ALERTS
Trash and recycling will run on the normal schedule the week of Monday, January 13th. Please set your carts out for services on your regularly scheduled day by 7 a.m.  Those whose trash and recycling were missed on Friday, January 10th due to the snow should set out overflow bagged trash next to their City cart to be collected this Friday (1/17). Overflow recycling should be placed next to your City recycling cart in cardboard boxes or personal containers clearly marked as recycling (no plastic bags!) and set out on your next scheduled recycling day (Friday, 1/24).

“When in doubt, set it out!” Thanksgiving and Christmas are the only planned days of the year when curbside trash and recycling are not picked up as scheduled. If the holiday falls on or prior to your scheduled collection day during the week, collection is delayed by one day and Sanitation Workers work through Saturday to catch up. The following Monday, service resumes as usual.

MISSED GARBAGE PICKUP

If your gray City of Knoxville garbage cart was not emptied on your regular pickup day, please follow these guidelines:

  • Leave your cart at the curb; do not pull it back to your house. Occasionally drivers work late or collect missed carts the next day.

  • Wait until the next business day to report. Trucks break down, construction blocks roads, and stops are rerouted. Even if you've noticed a pattern of when the truck comes by, there are no set times for pickup. You can't be sure you were missed until the following day; therefore, please wait to report.

  • Report within two business days of being missed. If Monday is your pickup day, for example, please report on Tuesday or Wednesday. If you miss the reporting window, we still want to know--but the driver can't return for the trash until the next scheduled pickup day.

  • Report by calling 311 or by using the "Report Missed Pickup" button above. For fastest service, please do not email to report. Consider downloading the "My Knoxville App" to report trash misses or any other City-related issue.
