City of Knoxville offices will be closed Monday, Sept. 2, 2024, for the Labor Day holiday.
Closures include the 311 Center for Service Innovation, which operates 311 and 211. Residents who need to report potholes, overgrown lots or other issues to 311 are encouraged to use the My Knoxville app, available for iPhone and Android at
KnoxvilleTN.gov/app. To access a list of social services available through 211, residents can utilize the online chatbot at

All residential garbage and recycling will be picked up on schedule, so place carts at the curb by 7 p.m. the night before. Downtown trash and recycling will also run on its regular schedule throughout Labor Day weekend.
The City's Solid Waste Facility (1033 Elm Street) will be closed Saturday, Aug. 31, and Monday, Sept. 2. Visit

The City's five recycling centers will be open, but the Goodwill attendant will not be available to receive household goods donations on Monday, Sept. 2. The Knoxville Compost Project accepts qualifying food scraps for composting at three of these locations as well as the Market Square Farmers’ Market; learn more at

The City’s outdoor pools will operate regular hours this weekend before closing for the season. Ed Cothren (1737 Reynolds St.) and Inskip (4204 Bruhin Road) pools will be open 11 a.m.-5 p.m. Saturday and Monday, as well as 1-6 p.m. on Sunday. Admission is $3 per person at Ed Cothren, $4 at Inskip.
Dogs are invited to swim at Doggie Dip Nights on Tuesday, Sept. 3, and Thursday, Sept. 5, 5-8 p.m. at Inskip Pool. Cost is $5 per adult, $5 per dog with a limit of two dogs per person. All dogs must be spayed/neutered and vaccinated. For more information and registration forms, visit

On Labor Day, Knoxville Area Transit buses will operate on a Sunday schedule. To review the updated routes and schedules, download the Transit app or visit katbus.com. To help riders with the new routes implemented on Aug. 26, KAT buses are fare-free through Sept. 8, 2024.
