City Offices Opening at 10 a.m. Monday, Jan. 23, 2024

Posted: 01/21/2024
City Public Service Department crews today continued salting residential streets, assisting with dispatch emergency calls, and assuring safe access along hospital routes.

Look for more of the same on Monday, as well as non-snow team Public Service employees continuing to clear ice off downtown sidewalks and entrances to recreation centers.

With temperatures finally forecast to top the 40-degree mark, the salt and calcium chloride that have been spread will be more effective in melting the sheets of ice that have packed many City streets.

Nonetheless, the overnight temperature tonight is expected to drop to about 12 degrees, so some of the snow and ice that melted today will refreeze. Motorists and pedestrians are urged to be cautious and take it slow if commuting tomorrow.

Due to the low temperatures and refreezing, City offices and the City County Building will delay opening until 10 a.m. Monday.

CITY COURT

City Court will resume tomorrow for those who can safely access the Public Safety Complex, with court beginning at 10:30 a.m. If residents are unable to attend, court dates will be reset.

KNOXVILLE AREA TRANSIT (KAT)

Likewise, Knoxville Area Transit is operating on Severe Snow Routes today. Only Routes 11, 12, 22, 31 and 41 are being served through the 5:15 p.m. lineup.

KAT is anticipating starting Monday on Severe Snow Routes (service only being provided along the Kingston Pike 11, Western Avenue 12, Broadway 22, Magnolia Avenue 31 and Chapman Highway 41 routes) during regularly scheduled service hours. KAT will switch to regular Snow Routes if road conditions improve.

Please continue to check KAT's Facebook page, Twitter page, website and Transit app for updates.

WASTE CONNECTIONS

Regarding curbside pickups of residential trash and recyclables: Waste Connections crews will operate on a one-day delay this week, with Monday routes being collected on Tuesday, Tuesday routes collected on Wednesday, and so forth through Saturday.

NON-EMERGENCY ISSUES

To report non-emergency issues needing attention, or to request non-emergency services, contact the 3-1-1 Center. For fastest and easiest access, use the My Knoxville app or go to www.KnoxvilleTN.gov/311.
