City is Opening Downtown Non-Motorized, Pedestrian Zone

Posted: 10/10/2024
The City of Knoxville is opening up a downtown non-motorized, pedestrian zone for the remaining weekends of the year.

The temporary road closures will be from Friday nights at 6 p.m. to Sunday nights at 6 p.m.

Closures include Market Street between Clinch Ave. and Union Ave, and Union Avenue between Walnut and Gay Street, essentially mimicking the closures that occur with the Market Square Farmer’s Market.

Going forward, this will expand the footprint of our bustling Market Square, and provide additional safe pedestrian areas during busy UT football game weekends and the upcoming holiday season.

Temporary no-parking signs will be posted in advance for each weekend.

Please note, this weekend, due to several pre-planned events, the road closures will begin on Saturday.
