A head’s up to West Knoxville motorists: If you can avoid a section of Parkside Drive in the evenings and overnight, you’ll miss both road-paving crews hard at work and likely traffic slowdowns.
Starting the evening of Sunday, June 23, 2024, Rogers Group crews will be repaving a 1.3-mile section of Parkside Drive, between Lovell Road and the Knoxville city limits. The project is expected to be completed in about three weeks.
Work will begin each evening at 6 p.m. and continue overnight until 6 a.m. The evening and night-time work schedule is aimed at minimizing traffic backups.
One contractor crew will start by removing the surface layer of asphalt. Then, once the milling is complete, a separate crew will put down fresh asphalt.
The road will remain open during the milling and repaving, but anticipate lane closures, the presence of workers and flagging of traffic around the work zones.
This year’s current City budget includes $8.6 million to repave 32 miles of local streets. By ordinance, the miles of repaved roads are evenly distributed throughout the city.
