City Co-Hosts Creekbank Repair Workshop

Posted: 02/12/2025
Individuals interested in learning cost-effective and beneficial techniques to stabilize erosion along creekbanks are encouraged to attend a Creekbank Repair Workshop on Friday, March 7, 2025. 8:30 a.m. - 4 p.m. at the City of Knoxville Public Works Service Center, 3131 Morris Avenue.

Property owners with streams and creeks sometimes struggle with how to stabilize creekbanks and repair erosion, which can damage property, threaten infrastructure and choke out fish and insects from waterways.

Experts from the University of Tennessee, Knox County Stormwater, City of Knoxville Stormwater Management, and other local partners will demonstrate a variety of cost-effective field techniques, including bank-shaping using hand tools, erosion control, live staking and native planting.

The workshop will consist of morning class sessions, then lunch, followed by on-site field application at Spring Place Park. Materials, tools and supplies will be available for participants, who should wear appropriate footwear and bring a pair of work gloves. Transportation from the classroom to the work site will be the responsibility of the attendees.

The cost is $30 per person, which includes lunch.

Register online by March 3.

Additional support for the workshop comes from the Tennessee Water Resources Research Center, TVA and Tennessee River Basin Network.
