Downtown Parking Conversion Updates

Posted: 03/07/2025
By the end of this weekend, all parking meters in the downtown area are expected to be removed. In their place, you will begin to see signs for the new ParkMobile payment system. While signs and new rates will be in place starting Monday, March 10, there will be a grace period for on-street parking through March 28, 2025.

A new Discounted Downtown Workers Parking Program is also a part of the City’s parking enhancements. The program allows workers who meet certain financial guidelines to apply for a reduced parking pass that equates to $1.80 per day. Discounted spaces are being offered in the Old City North Lot in the 300 block of Jackson Ave., and in the State Street Garage.

To be eligible for discounted parking at one of these locations, you must work downtown, and have an annual income at or below 80 percent of the area median family income (AMI) established by HUD.

The discounted parking program will start on March 28. To see more details and learn how to apply go to www.KnoxParkTN.com.

It’s important to note that the Civic Coliseum and Auditorium Garage A will continue to have a significantly reduced rate for any downtown worker, regardless of income. As of March 2025, the rate at KCAC Garage A is $20 per month.

As the parking conversion continues downtown, people may also notice that one 10-hour parking zone will remain in place. On-street parking spaces on South Central, between Summit Hill and Main, will remain 10-hour spots.  All other 10-hour areas are being converted to 4-hour zones.
