Go Vote! KnoxvilleGO VOTE! KNOXVILLE is a nonpartisan initiative to encourage community engagement and increase voter turnout in this year’s elections.

It is being managed by the City’s Communications Department and Parks and Recreation Department, in partnership with the Knox County Election Commission and community leaders and sponsors.

Voters will be electing a majority of the next City Council, and Mayor Madeline Rogero and members of the current City Council want robust participation in the election process.

GO VOTE! KNOXVILLE will include a series of six get-out-the-vote public meetings, one in each of the six City Council districts.
At these community meetings, Mayor Rogero, current Council members and neighborhood leaders will talk about the importance of getting to know the candidates and the issues, and then voting in the Aug. 29 primary and Nov. 7 general election.

The City and local businesses will provide pizza and snacks at these public meetings, as well as family-friendly games and activities. The Election Commission will provide voter information, register new voters and demonstrate how to cast a ballot using its voting machines. Candidates will be introduced, and voters will have opportunities to talk one-on-one with them.

OTHER CITY COUNCIL SEATS

Go Vote! Knoxville at District 5 - September 7, 2017

Candidates for the 5th District and the three at-large Council seats run in a different election cycle - with the Mayor and City Judge - so those elections do not come up for another two years. Mayor Madeline Rogero, 5th District Council member Mark Campen, At-Large Council members George Wallace, Marshall Stair and Finbarr Saunders, and City Judge John R. Rosson Jr. were elected to four-year terms in 2015.

To be eligible to run for a specific district seat, a candidate must reside in that district. The at-large Council members can reside anywhere in the city.

Candidates running for a district seat square off in a primary election in which residents of the district are eligible to vote. The top two vote-getters run citywide in the November general election.

All City races are non-partisan.

See a map of the City Council districts. Learn more about City Council in general, or get to know better your elected officials, including Mayor Rogero.
