Knoxville Mayor Madeline Rogero and Police Chief David Rausch presented the Life Saving Award to Knoxville Police Department Officer Travis Harvey. Officer Harvey has been with the department since August 2005.
Chief Rausch said that on July 13, 2014, at approximately 12:35 a.m., Officer Harvey responded to a domestic related stabbing call at a residence in the 500 block of E. Red Bud Road. As Officer Harvey made his way into the kitchen he discovered the female victim who had been stabbed in the neck with a large kitchen knife. The victim was bleeding profusely from her wound.
"Officer Harvey immediately called for an ambulance then grabbed a kitchen towel and began applying pressure to the serious wound on the victim's neck," said Chief Rausch.
The victim had suffered a life-threatening injury and was immediately transported to UT Medical Center by emergency medical technicians.
Chief Rausch said, "Emergency room staff at UT Medical Center said that Officer Harvey's actions helped to stabilize the victim, which ultimately saved her life."
"Officer Harvey clearly went above his call of duty by rendering aid in a high stress situation. We commend Officer Harvey and thank him for an outstanding job," Chief Rausch concluded.
