Knoxville Mayor Madeline Rogero and Police Chief David Rausch named Greg Whitaker the December 2017 Employee of the Month.
Mr. Whitaker has been with KPD since February 2017 when he began working in the Tech Services Unit.
From day one Mr. Whitaker has been pro-active in learning and going above and beyond to learn his role in the unit. From the start, he provided great custom service to the officers coming into the radio shop. He immediately offered to take classes to learn more about the aspects of the unit. He also volunteered to attend, and completed on his own time, the Knoxville Police Department’s Citizen Police Academy in order to learn more about the department. He has been an exceptional addition to the team.
Chief Rausch said, “Despite his already busy workload, it was his time, effort, and vision on a cold case homicide video reenactment where he really put his talents to work.”
The Tech Services Unit was approached by the Violent Crimes Unit with an idea of creating a video reenactment from a cold case homicide in hopes of generating leads that could potentially solve the case. Mr. Whitaker took that vision and brought it to life. His creativity, his eye for the best camera shots and his editing skills made the video intense yet emotional for the viewer. He put the project together in a way that the victim’s story was clear and heartfelt. Throughout the project, not only did Greg do most of the camera work and editing, but he was able to flawlessly switch roles at a moment’s notice to maintain his other responsibilities.
Chief Rausch said, “Without fail, Greg continued to handle the walk-in traffic to the radio shop by troubleshooting DVR and radio issues as they developed while piecing together the elements of the reenactment video. We congratulate you on a job well done.”
