The Knox Sports Authority will meet in its regular meeting at 9 a.m. on Tuesday, Aug. 23, 2022 at the City’s Public Works Service Center, 3131 Morris Ave.
On the agenda is a scheduled vote to amend the Interlocal Agreement governing the financing, construction and management of a publicly-owned multi-use stadium. The changes include a cap on the interest rate for stadium bonds to reflect the national trend of rising interest rates.
Two reports are on the agenda to be heard at the Aug. 23 meeting – an update by the private developer on recruitment and hiring of minority-owned, women-owned and veteran-owned businesses to help with the stadium construction and management, and an update from the Sports Authority’s Financing Subcommittee.
The Sports Authority will be financing, overseeing construction of and managing the stadium, to be built on property just east of the Old City. The stadium is expected to host hundreds of events each year – professional baseball games, but it also is designed to accommodate everything from soccer matches to concerts and festivals to other public events by early 2025.
